This 1 hour presentation is an introduction to Tenkara - fixed line Japanese fly fishing. It includes a history of both western and Japanese fixed line fly fishing, Tenkara flies, rods and lines. He will bring examples of the equipment for the audience to try out if they desire.  Michael Hackney, aka The Eclectic Angler, is a reelsmith, angling historian, technologist, and author. His ground-breaking book, The Reelsmith's Primer - The Art of Hand-crafting Fly Fishing Reels, has inspired thousands of anglers from around the world to build their first fly reel. He is a life member of Trout Unlimited and resides in central Massachusetts near his home waters, the Squannacook and Nissitissit Rivers. Michael's clarity, passion, and expertise is instructive, contagious, and entertaining.

Michael will also talk about how he developed a completely 3D printed fly fishing reel with a click check.  His first 3D printed reel is part of the permanent display at the American Museum of Fly Fishing.
